my 6 year old budgie is sick. :( the vet said they won't be able to see him until tomorrow. He wouldn't fly today without coaxing, had poop stuck in his butt, and didn't want to eat his favourite treat millet. I put him in a smaller cage for now, as pinto keeps trying to groom him and kiss him and play. I'm so sad.

Here is a photo of his poop the darker wet one compared to the other budgies poop.

Here is poncho he sick budgie , it looks like his crop is bigger then normal too. IMG_1583.JPG
Here is the cage situation, pinto misses him so much, so I let them be able to see each other for comfort.

Are there any other vets you can get him to? I hope he's okay.

Oh no, I'm so sorry he's sick. I hope the vet goes well tomorrow, and whatever he has is easily treatable!

Called vet again because his droppings had barely anything to them and they said I could go in sooner since its an emergency, had to pay twice as much( I didnt know I could go in sooner they said tomorrow was the soonest I guess Ill know better next time). They gave him Antibotics, said he was a little bit dehydrated, said hes definately sick..crop appeared fine, said he was a little underweight. She said no specialists on the island for birds , but she figures its his liver due to his droppings, and did a culture which ruled out stomach infection. So lets hope the anitbotics work and its a liver infection or some other infection that can be treated =(((She said I could give him some pedialite mixed with water (0.5 ml) and baby food (3 ml) 3 times a day, I tried to do that when I got home but it was hard to see if any really got in his beak. Afterwards however, he had 2 poops that were very watery with a small amount of that dark feces. Anyone know of a video of how to properly syringe feed a budgie, I feel like I might be not holding him upright enough . He will be on antibotics for 14 days. She said since theres no specialists here, to do bloodwork to see if its his liver would take weeks to get the results and he prob wouldnt make it anyways if it was liver failure so it would be pointless(for the cost).

Please send prayers for my little Poncho!

i hope the vet meant baby bird formula and not the totally unsuitable human baby formula? you can grind up pellets if you don't have baby bird formula.

Yes ground pellets with lukewarm water via a syringe. Don't use your coffee grinder unless you're sure it's 100% caffiene free. I have a special dedicated pellet grinder. Anyway by human baby food she may have meant the little jars of sweet potatoes or green beans etc. I think the vitamins in the baby cereal type foods are different from what a bird needs.

Just before I went to turn the lights off, he actually ate some millet, a couple of pellets. First time I saw him eat all day besides myself syringe feeding him 3 hours earlier. He also had antibtoics 3 hours before that too. Can antibiotics work that quickly?

Yes they work fast! In fact I've seen my Quaker turn around in half an hour. So glad he is eating!

You might want to order Harrison's recovery formula and freeze the bag. I use the vet provided nutri support daily for my underweight birds. It's easily digestible and is rich in vitamins and nutrients.

Is it milk thistle that they recommend for liver failure? If so how much should she give him to help out?
