Hi guys,
Yesterday there was a pigeon, who was quite tame, in front of my house. I took him inside in the evening as he couldn't fly really well and he isn't a wild pigeon.
I wanted to take him to the bird rescue tomorrow evening. I have him in a parrot cage in the shed right now. He is doing really well, his droppings are normal and he can fly a lot better then when I took him in yesterday. He is eating well too.
So now I have started to doubt wether or not I should take him to the rescue. Maybe it is better to let a vet give him a check-up and find him a good home.
At the rescue they adopt pigeons out, but they have a lot of them so they don't have a lot of requirements. I want to make sure he gets a really good home with a friend where he can take sand baths and such, so I think I Will try to find him a home myself.
But.. Well that is probably going to take Some time, so he Will have to stay here for a bit. So I would like to hear what you guys know about pigeon care. What do you feed them? What kind of cages do you use? Would it be possible to have him around my ducks(I could give him fly time in their aviary outside, but is it possible for them to get sick because he is there?)?
I Will do my own research as well of course, but I really value the Opninion of the people here!
Also, I don't want to admit it, but I have been thinking about rescueing another pigeon and give him a good life myself, but that would be my last resort, but I Will do a lot of research just in case!
So, here is the little fellow, his name is Fidged:
