Urgent My Cockatiel may need a hysterectomy

@cassiesdad I have a question. When your cockatiel had the emergency hysterectomy was she developing toxic cells in her body? The vet took a blood test today and said Skye appears to be having toxic cells forming due to the egg shells stuck in her uterus. And now they are making her feel ill. That's why she needs another operation fast. They were considering already today but are trying to get her to be as strong as possible and loading her up with antibiotics before tomorrow.

Another question. How long did it take for cassie to heal afterwards? And was there any worry about her dying after the operation was finished? I'm just worried Skye survives the op then may die hours later. All this is so nerve wracking.

Yes the egg contents will begin to poison her. It’s called egg peritonitis. You are being realistic of the outcome. I’m pulling for both of you.

Skye has now had her operation. Good news she survived it. They didn't have to remove her uterus either and took out the egg shells. Now they will closely moniter her for the next 1-2 days to make sure she keeps going forward from here and not backwards. They say it's still possible she can die with 24 hours of the operation but I really hope after she made it this far she makes it the whole way. She also has an implant now so hopefully with that and her mate being moved to another cage will avoid any repeats.

I'll let you all know how she goes in the next 24 hours. Thanks everyone for all the nice comments, they have been a great help.
