Do they all smell similar? I've never held an amazon and definitely have never smelled one either. Do you have to put your noise in really close to smell their scent?

Is it similar to the scent of a pionus parrot?

Just wondering out of curiousity only.:)

I fostered a BHPi for a couple years - I swore she smelled like roses.
My two Amazons smell different from each other. I don't know if it's an individual thing or a sex or species difference. I'd be able to tell the difference in the dark though. Chico really ramps up the "volume" when he gets worked up.

Sweet smell when clean. Merlin refuses to bathe, so sometimes he smells like "Stinky Pee Boy". :D

Dusty fruit loops in the sun. It's stronger when he's hormonal or excited/happy.

They smell 'leafy' like a plant with scented foliage. Can't think of any plant in particular to compare the smell but that's what they're reminiscent of to me. The strength of the scent varies from species to species, though. Apparently, Mealies have the strongest scent. Go to any store with parrots and if they have an Amazon there you're probably going to get a whiff of their scent up close. :)

It smells soooo good, to me anyway...it's kinda like fruit loops..and it's like he can poof it out when he wants to..when he's excited or happy is when it smells the strongest..it makes me just want to eat him up..I know I'm crazy lol..I might also sniff his blanket I cover him up with when I take it on and off..it smells just like it :D

Perhaps I DO need her/him, but I made it a point not to ever get any bird approaching two decades or older in age. This bird is 18 years old. I don't know what I would be in store health-wise and the life expectancy because of it. I would be too concerned about that.

All I can say is my Mealy doesn't smell bad. They get showers a few times a week. But you can smell him once you enter into his room. My Red Lored when wet smells like mashed potatos :D

I would say musty from what I can remember...I haven't smelled Amarillo yet...perhaps I'll go do that now.

Speaking of Amarillo, she tried to regurgitate for me today! I feel so special now!:)
