This morning, my 43yr old blue crown conure, Crackers, died of a heart attack. I feel so awful and feel like it is all my fault. I had just put the macaws on their stands in the living room and went to the bird room (where the small birds get to fly free during the day) to change out toys. Sarge (my military macaw) had climbed down off her stand (witch she NEVER does) and followed me into the bird room (i didn't know she was even off her stand). As I was changing out toys I saw a blur of green and felt something brush by my legs. I look down and sarge was at my feet and cracker had just jumped onto the floor next to her (he loves any bird all he wanted to do was cuddle with her). In a split second it was all over. She never even bit him, all she did was lunge at him but I guess due to his age that is all it took. He started convulsing and fell over. I picked him up and held him while he died in my hands.

I feel sooo awful. I love and miss him so much already. I don't know how I am gonna look at Sarge the same way again. I know it's not her fault but all I can think about is how Crackers is gone and I will never get him back.

I am sorry for your loss. I think that in time, you'll look at Sarge the same as before. It was no one's fault. Just one of those terrible things. :sadhug:

I'm so sorry you've lost Cracker.

Remember all the good times with him, don't weigh yourself down with guilt and regret. It was one of those accidents, that just happen. No one's fault.

RIP old fellow.

I'm very sorry about your loss. It wasn't anyone's fault. He was just old, honey. Instead you should be proud at providing him a loving, healthy home that he lived so long.

Teresa, I am so sorry to hear that Crackers has passed.

Please keep this in mind...with Crackers having made it to 43 years old...I believe that at his age, it could have happend anytime and ...the good news is that you werethere with him when this happend.

This wasn't your fault or the other birds fault. It to me really wasn't even an accident...it was old age.
I know that your hurting really bad...but try to remember all the goods times you had.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I too, don't think the bird had anything to do with Crackers' death. Crackers is now flying high and free with none of the aches and pains we old people tolerate.
