Just call me Avie (:
Wow, this is great! I was assuming my female was young because they told us she was young when we adopted her, but her cere matches that of a mature female. I'm surprised she & Buddy haven't been ready to breed yet. They are very close!

Is her cere white? That would be female if so.

Another vote for female - cere is definitely white "with" color. Males don't get white ceres, but females can have white ceres with color. (blue/tan)

I'd say male. Looks very pink. Pretty little thing!

Male, definitely a pied but more pics would be helpful. There aren't many markings on him which leads me to believe a DF Dom. Pied.

Odin, birds are always trying to "get with" each other. Breeding and food are the two largest drives birds have, and most things they do are geared towards that. A males presence is stimulating her to come in to breeding mode. It's not the only thing. Food avalabilaty, lighting, nesting areas, etc all can push a hen to be in breeding mode. Now budgies, being kept so long in captivity, are always going to be easy to trigger.

Long story short, yes she is thinking about a family! Just don't give her places to lay, and you will be fine.
Hi Can I ask you a question? I know my birds are mating, and if I don't give her places to lay, will she not lay an egg? Thanks!

Females will lay eggs, if they want to, whether or not they have a place to.

Female? :) (The whitish/blue one appears to be her "mate" in a bonded pair)

She seems like she has an egg in her.. IF she does.. how long will she take to lay it? How long can it stay in there without being laid?

@Lightning57 Mickey looked so male for quite a while. Even her breeder thought so. Her cere turned mostly white after 6 months. Her breeder is in New Jersey and ships his English buddies all over US.
