Hello everyone.. I've dropped Zazu off at the vet. They will be running some initial bloods to check for lead etc. Then tomorrow they will run another test for zinc. However they can't do them both at the same time as the lead test is on site but the zinc test requires more blood and to be sent off site (too much blood for Zazu who weighs 46grams)

Her seizures have slowed but are still happening, even with the aid of oxygen and valium. They will be keeping her in overnight and hopefully stabilise her. They really appreciated all of the notes I had made for each seizure (time, length of seizure, behaviours). She had 53 all up... such a tough lil cookie. I managed to hold it together until I asked if I could go in and say goodbye.. broke my heart seeing her all alone in the incubator. But glad she is with the right people who can really tend to her needs.

I can't thank you all enough for helping me through this tough time.. sending my love to you all x

Glad its an avian vet & shes in an incubator & they will keep her hydrated.
Guess they have to rule out metal poisoning.

Maybe cage, toys, paint. She had a test for metal 2 mo ago?
Hope they figure it out.

She's tiny. Bless her heart.

I'm so glad you got her to the vet. Sounds like they are competent.

I'm rooting for her full recovery.

Sending positive thoughts for Zazu. I hope the seizures will ease off and the vet can determine what is causing them.

Hello everyone

It's 10am Monday now. 24 hours since I last saw Zazu. Waiting to hear back from the vet to see how she went throughout the night.

Really gutted though because she was sick and I didn't notice anything :( The bloods revealed a very high white blood cell count and issues with her liver. Her liver was struggling to remove any toxins out of her system and she was left trying to fight them off. I'm sure this doesn't happen overnight so I am wondering how I missed it? The vet is also trying to figure out what could have caused it too.

Fingers crossed they phone me soon.

Sending plenty of prayers that Zazu can make a full recovery, and that you can get some answers soon.

Hello again

The Vet just called and let me know that she made it through the night. Zazu suffers the occasional mild seizure/twitching after the sedatives have worn off so they are going to keep her in for another day or so to fully stabilize her. They are going to run one more test for Chlamydia to rule it out (I had no idea birds could get this). Highly unlikely as she lives alone.

Thank you for all of your prayers and kind words.

Chlamydia is also known as psittacosis or parrot fever. If you've had your bird for a while, it seems unlikely. My two both got treated for it earlier this year - not a fun experience. I hope they can figure out what's wrong with Zazu. :( Keep us posted.

So sorry Zazu has been sick. Remember birds hidden their illnesses until they are too weak to do so.

Sorry that Zazu showed a high WBC and high liver values. Perhaps she has a liver infection - not out of the realm of possibilities.

Do they have her on antibiotics for what ever infection the WBC are fighting?
