I forgot to thaw out any chop, so the birds got some of the dry food options I keep on hand.

Both got Bird Street Bistro Apple Berry as a base, with mixed in freeze dried chop from Texas Freeze Dried Naturals, small bird Unpellet from Phoenix Foraging Rolls, hemp seed, and spices mixed in.

Ripley also got soaked Psittacus pellets and some Green Chunks from Phoenix Foraging Rolls.

Freeze dried is a specific dehydrating method, so the pieces are more crunchy than hard like air dried. They also retain more of their natural color, taste, and nutrients. They are shelf stable for a very long time.

I just mix it up with a bit of moist food or sprinkle it with water and it rehydrates it.

Freeze dried is one thing my two have never entertained
It has to be very specific freeze dried here apparently  Texas Naturals makes them super thin and shredded and that seems to go over okay (not as well as fresh but acceptable)

First actually semi serious birdie bread attempt. Realised I had very little ingredients so...

Many mixed reviews by the birds.
I believe all the budgies at least tried it, some liked it better then others. If they didn't like it they at least did a good job picking out every last seed :hilarious:
Quarter it is hard to say. He throws 50% of any food on the ground, he was thoroughly annoyed I didn't just give him his seed and pellets. Also realised that while I took whether he could eat budgie pellets into account, I did not consider whether he actually would eat them... so may have to try a batch with his pellets.
Gave some to Marcus too (family member's bird), who is about as seed junky as they come. He had a literal small panic when he realised I'd swapped his seed for healthy food :shy: (was a bit of a colour shock I think too).

The fall season has brought a new favorite - pumpkin! I scrubbed and cut up a pie pumpkin (the smaller round ones you get to make pumpkin pie, not the big jack o lanterns for carving, although I assume it would be pretty much the same) into chunks, and they all seem to love it, especially Jasper the baby Pionus. I've also discovered, thanks to Jasper's breeder, cooked chickpeas (aka garbanzo beans) as a healthy treat. We're having fun trying new things around here.
