This is Mr. Jeepers and Jada, my Red Legged Honeycreepers. They flew into my life in February and May of this year. They are very quiet as far as volume, and love to dance and sing with each other. They are very gentle with each other and are tight friends now. :hug6:I just love them, and I think they are in love too.

singing their jubilant song!!

Mr. Jeepers, the male~

Jada, the female~

Thank you JR. Isn't he stunning? When I describe him I say he is the most intense cobalt blue I have ever seen on a bird. They are very special.:swoon:

I was hoping you would post pics of these two sweethearts - came here looking after seeing the thread with the rest of your flock.

They are so fascinating to me, perhaps because they are so different. am glad to hear that they are bonding - I know they are a joy for you!

Absolutely stunning!

Will you be breeding them in the future? I can't imagine how adorable baby Honeycreepers would be. :D

Thank you Miriam. They do not allow handling, but are very active, curious, and they respond well to me. Miss Jada is more nervous and my little troublemaker{she was escaping from the cage before I fixed it}. Mr. Jeepers is more calm. His beauty never stops mesmerizing me.I love them.

They do have a little tropical hut type nest. Mr Jeepers decided it makes a great sleep hut.:D They also have nesting material. I give them all the best foods I could find after doing much research. But the thing they lack, and what would probably spur them to breed is live insects. I might try small mealworms again. I am a member of a UK softbill forum, and members there say that live insects will do it. There is a lady from CA I have been trying to find to join. She has a pair of purple honeycreepers that are just as stunning. She gives hers wingless fruit flies, which is another insect I might like to try. They have to have a low iron diet. I give them nectar,. and fresh papaya too. It would be awesome to have some babies. They only lay two tiny eggs. They may not be available soon in the states. So sharing my life with them is very special to me. The only thing I would love to have different is a wider cage. I wish there was a practical way to turn their cage sideways. They sing and dance with each other.:dancing::dancing:

Waterfaller1 have you heard of a prepared food called "Bugs and Berries?" It's formulated for the diets of birds just like honeycreepers. I agree though that live insects would probably work best to motivate them to breed. I imagine the fruitflies would really get them going.
