I can assist in this a little, as I work at an animal hospital/sepcialist center, and have access to a libray of medical books, many focusing on exotics and avian treatments. Plus, one of the doctors I work with on a regular basis, and happen to be friends with is an experienced avian vet and he is always willing to offer free advice

I am sorry that I have not updated everyone sooner but have been depressed. I took Mikey back to the vet on Saturday and he has lost 6 grams and told me he didn’t appear much better and still clogged. 
He told me to put him back on the Neopolydex twice a day and gave me probiotics. He asked me why I though Mikey was loosing weight and I told him that Mikey is depressed being in the hospital cage and not in his big boy cage so he told me to put him back in his regular cage. He did a poop culture in which I was suppose to get results back yesterday but after several calls nobody has returned my calls. 
Yesterday, I also called the first vet (the exotic vet) that I went to find out exactly where his staph infection was and he told me it was in the roof of his mouth which is another reason why I would like to talk to my vet because he didn't give Mikey a culture test for that area and I think he needs it. I am soo worried about Mikey and I don't like the way he sounds or the way he looks. At this point my gut tells that I feel that this avian vet has done all that he can do for Mikey and a second opinion is needed ASAP. Tommorow morning I have a appt with a board certified avian specialist which my current vet is not. There are only 2 of these vets in NJ. I will be going to Dr. James McKinely of the Amwell Bird Hospital and he treats birds and only birds. Mikey needs all the prayers he can get.

Oh no, I am glad your getting him to another vet. It sounds like neither one of them has figured what is wrong. Prayers for Mikey to get the right diagnoses and meds to make him feel better.

Your gut is usually right. I just got back from the Amwell Bird Hospital. My parents came with me and we spent 1½ hours with this doctor. My head is spinning so please bear with me. At first when he saw Mikey we were going over his diet and he told me to switch over to Harrison pellets and mash… Then he weighed Mikey and he is now only 83 grams (he was 88 grams on Saturday) We are all worried about why Mikey is loosing weight soo fast...
Then he gave Mikey a nasal flush and put some antibiotics in it as well.. He also gave Mikey a shot of Doxycycline which will stay in his system for a week so I either go back next week for another one or he’ll give me a prescription. He took some various culture tests. He also gave Mikey a tube feeding as he has not been eating much. And then when he took the blood test that’s when his face appeared grim and at this point he told me that Mikey blood has a ton of fat in it without him even having to spin it (whatever that means).. Then he continued on to say that Mikey is a whiteface cockatiel and this type of cockatiel has been inbreed for so many years that perhaps what is wrong with him is genetic so at that point I just wrapped my arms around my dad and started to cry like a baby. And plus we don’t know how old since I adopted him from the animal shelter and his leg-band is ineligible. He could just be a old cockatiel. He said we have to wait till the cultures come back so he knows what steps to take which unfortunately labs are closed for the holidays so it’s going to take a very long time to get. He said if I wanted to leave Mikey there with him at the hospital I could do that but he felt Mikey would do better being home with mommy. I know that I have done all that I can do as a parront who loves her baby. The pain I feel is just unbearable.
