Hi there, I'm a relatively new bird owner. I've had my green cheek for a couple months now and she's been flighted... but after a few run ins with the window and miror, i thought it might be safer to clip her wings so she doesn't hurt herslef.
Anyway, i took her to a personally recommended professional to get her wings done. She's been great, there was no bleeding and she's getting the hang of not flying everywhere. I thought i would check out her wings and stretch them out to get a closer look at her feathers and i noticed that 6 feathers were cut on one side, and 5 on the other.

What should i do? will she be okay until they grow back or should i go to a vet and get them evened out?

Thanks!!!

Honestly my friend this was "your" mistake. Instead of making the "environment" safe for your bird (by covering mirrors, disguising/covering windows) and providing "landing stations" that she could learn, become familiar with and target, you decided to handicap her.

When your child learns to ride a bike they are going to fall off and skin their knee quite a few times before they get the hang of it. What you decided to do was flatten the tires on your child's bike while they were still learning. Didn't help one bit.

She'll be fine. Work on that environment and make it "bird safe" so "attempts" at flight are going to be safe because she's still going to try.

And, John is right. My son was covered in bruises just trying to walk. His doctor told me that she would be more concerned if he didn't have bruises. I put padding on sharp corners, kept the stairs blocked, and monitored him, but I never once strapped him down and made sure he didn't walk. Preventing bruises wasn't the goal - letting him learn to walk with minimal injury was not dependent on things I do TO him, but things I did AROUND him. Same goes for birds and learning to fly.
