There will be two new birds joining my flock on Friday! :D This was really unplanned and the opportunity sort of popped up but I made a thought out decision to open my home to them. :)

I'm going to have some fun with this! Let's see if any of you can guess what species. :p

Both birds are the same species and they are brothers.

Here's you're first clue: They are not Psittacines!

:hehe: None of the above! :p

Clue number two: It is a species that is not typically kept in captivity. :)

Bluebirds? Are they wild or raised in captivity?

Not Bluebirds!

Clue number three (and to answer your question): They were born in the wild but they were orphaned and were raised by people. This species happens to be unprotected and legal to keep in captivity in Ontario.

Alright... clue number four: This species can learn how to talk. Apparently these two birds can say about 20 different words!

Yeah that's them.

For everyone else who doesn't know these guys are both human imprints and one of them has a shoulder injury so he can't fly. They are 5 years old. One was DNA sexed male and the other one was assumed male based upon behaviour. Their names are Pip and Flash.

I'm super excited! I love this species and it's a great opportunity to work with softbills especially those you don't typically see in captivity. :)

YAY! :D

In the meantime I'm setting up a quarantine room for them. It's not a separate air space but it's the best I can do. I'm going to put an air filter in with them and always tend to them last. I'm going to have testing done on them as well. I'm not really worried about anything contagious though because they have never been around parrots so they wouldn't have any "parrot diseases" and they were both tested and treated for worms and parasites as babies at the University of Guelph. One possible disease is Psittacosis (Chlamydia) so I'll talk to my avian vet about that.

Congrats! Starlings are awesome. I've only met only captive starling before, but she was really, really cute. Not incredibly tame, but she'd step on your hand. I can't wait to see pics!:D
