Sprouting Seeds - which do you grow?

I'm an avid gardener and would love to grow some healthy things for my Conures. So, my question of course is, what are some excellent things to sprout for them, what should I stay away from, how often should I offer them sprouted seeds, etc. ? I garden organically by the way.

I myself like munching on some Amaranth microgreens, Black Oil Sunflower seedlings (taste just like the seed!), and of course different lettuces and greens mostly. My chickens love wheatgrass and Amaranth as well. All suggestions welcome! Thanks so much in advance for your input!

I have amaranth too! I also have an organic sprouting mix I grow(it’s Dutch, so I’m afraid it’s not available where you are!), I have several beans, lentils and I sprout sunflower seeds too. I use them for training, that way their training treats are more nutritious then plain sunflower seeds.

Oh that's awesome, most people I talk to have never heard of amaranth! I grow the red garnet and love lies bleeding varieties and I think both will be safe for the fids?
Do you Sprout only black oil sunflower seeds or is any type of sun flower fine you think?
And for beans, I normally grow polebeans and a yellow wax bean.
Kale and spinach, too (spinach should only be given in moderation?).

I'm sorry about so many questions, I'm just excited to grow some things for them and be able to control just how organic and fresh it is

Thanks so much @TikiMyn , I really appreciate your input!

Sprouting is great! Right now I have mung beans, green lentils, garbanzo, wild rice, quinoa, amaranth, millet, buckwheat, and popcorn sprouts ready to go. This is the chart that I use for general soak and sprout times. Usually I soak overnight and go from there, depending on how fast everything sprouts.

I bought some new seeds to try to sprout but haven't started the soak yet. I have fenugreek, radish, coriander, broccoli, and alfalfa to try for my next batch.

We do mostly clover, radish, broccoli, alfalfa, lentils, mung beans, and fenugreek (love the smell!)

Can't take credit for it, I think I found it on Jason Crean's Facebook group Avian Raw Whole Food Nutrition. It is helpful though. Let us know how the sprouting goes!

That was more as a joke. Of course they sprout. 100% sure they will! :D (but I think it is illegal in some, or all? states in your country)
I know you were joking, but all hemp seeds sold in the USA are sterilized. So they will never sprout, unless you are getting them from individuals who grow them or something.

I didn't know that. So my joke wasn't so fun after all... :wacky: :o:
And I do sprout and eat them myself and I can promise that I don't get high. ( I think.. :roflmao:)
They are so healthy, have a good balance in both Omega 3 and 6, and are high quality protein. That is pretty rare for vegetable protein.

But now I must cry a bit over that poor hemp seed that are sterilized and not can make babies. :D (No I haven't eating hemp seed today!)

Trust me, I wish we could sprout them. I've heard the sprouts are very healthy for the fids. :)

LOL you're so silly!
