<Sad Update #83>please help!! Sick baby!!!

I have a baby cockatiel, who is sitting with his eyes closed we thought he was dehydrated so we tried to get him to have fluids out the syringe but he refused which is unlike him, it has been over 35 degrees C today if that helps. OH MY he just threw up! AAAAAAHHHHhHh please help I don't want little barny to die!!!

Do not give fluids from a syringe to a baby. Too easy to aspirate them. How old is the bird, and what is the background? Can you get him to a certified avian vet this morning?

Can you set up a hospital cage, or aquarium with a heating pad, and towels in the bottom? Place the heating pad under one side of the aquarium, and towels in the bottom. He needs to see a vet ASAP.

What did the vet do? Did she listen to his heart and lungs? Weigh him? What?

Well, every avian vet is closed as it is 7:30pm over here so we went to just the general vet who were just closing when we got there but they let us in, she didn't do much, her stethoscope is for dogs and cats so she couldn't do that, she didn't weigh him, she didn't have a CLUE what she was doing , all she pretty much did was stand there and look at him and turn him upside down :O and charge us $78 for it, but she gave us 3grams of antibiotics( which I think are useless for him) to mix with 2 L of water( to be used in 3 days :O) and for a baby his size is ridiculous! We might be able to take him to the avian vet tomorrow but it is a little less than an hour away, I hope he gets through the night

I won't be taking birds to that vet again...

Okay sweetheart, you need to get him in a hospital cage. Everything down low, tent 3 sides and the top and put an heating pad on low under one half of the cage. Or point a light bulb on the tent, not on the bird, to keep it warm in there until you can get him to an avian vet. Do not feed him until you see his crop is not full. Make sure your formula is the right temperature, too hot and you will burn his crop, too cold and you will get slow crop and yeast infection. I'm not sure where your at but the food should be between 103-110 farenheit. Keep him calm, warm and hydrated. You can smear a little bit of corn syrup on his beak if you think he's failing or drop a little bit of sugar water in his beak with your finger.

Please keep us updated. Many of us drive at least a couple of hours both ways to see an avian vet. You can call them this morning and see what they suggest you do also.

I can't give him anything because he won't accept the syringe and I'm scared of getting it into his lungs if I force feed him, also is this what you mean? there's a lamp pointing at it on the right.
