Sunny was a knock outta the park. We knew we'd only take her if she was really special. And she is. We have her in our house now.

First off - very well intentioned people. But the bar space of the cage is too wide. They even said she has escaped. I'm going to let her sleep in the cage overnight but then transition to a bigger cage with appropriate bar spacing for a budgie.

Other issues: mirrors, dowel perches (that are not even the right diameter for a budgie), seed diet, plastic dishes, coconut hut that might encourage nesting. And she's never seen a vet (exotic or avian). She always had the same toys.

But I don't want to her into a new cage with new toys until she is comfortable.

They family told us Sunny knows a word. The word is "Dammit."

Awww I am so glad! Congratulations on your new family member!
Thanks. She's super cute. And needed a new home.

We learned much more about Sunny's situation when we met the family. Sunny came to them from another family member's home. In her 2nd home, the matron of the household was worried Sunny would accidentally be let outside by her father, who has Alzheimer's. The matron's husband HATES pets and hated Sunny. He threatened to let her outside...on purpose. Whenever Sunny was out of her cage, he stayed in the basement.

So, I'm glad she's with us.

Well......
And what does that mean??:hmmm:Never mind! Just saw the rest of the thread! She's absolutely adorable! Congratulations! She's lucky to be there! I quarantined AthenaDon for 30 days, but I did wonder how necessary it was as he was a solitary bird all of his life and had no interaction with other birds.

Very good, thanks for asking.

She likes to be covered, so we covered her and kept her in her original cage. She slept in my room.
Fortunately, today is our big deep cage clean day, so we will be cleaning our spare cage and getting her out of her original cage. It's not a good cage for a budgie (tall rather than wide and bar spacing not appropriate for a budgie).
