Question About Potted Plants?

Hello! I recently ordered a giant walk-in cage for my Budgies, and was fiddling around with the idea of perhaps putting a potted plant within it. (Like a really tiny tree or bush.)

Do you think this would be too risky to do? I’ve never tried anything like that before. I know some plants are harmful, so I’d have to look into that. But what of the dirt? I’m assuming certain brands can be harmful.
Is it better to just forego this idea?

If you do the research and find a bird safe plant like spider plant that can grow in sterile soil maybe. You would have to block the access to the birds getting into the soil or water. A plant would be just another thing to care for. I have seen cage backgrounds that are so pretty, like a rainforest. No living plants.

I got basil for my bird, rosemary, and parsley are good too. There are plenty of plants you can have, just make sure you cover the dirt. You can however use a piece of cardboard and put a small hole in the middle of the cardboard and put the plant in the hole to ensure no bird gets into the dirt.

Look at more hardy plants such as bottle brush and they’ll need replacing less often.
I’d opt for a thick covering of stones to keep birds well clear of dirt.
