New Jenday Conure

I've been reading this site and it has provided many helpful hints. Thank you all so much.
I am a new mom to 'Kona', my Jenday Conure. She is a year old female (I think because the ring around her eyes is more grayish than white), and I never knew such gentle, intelligent, not to mention beautiful birds existed! Kona has completely and totally bonded with me, which is a good and bad thing. I LOVE that she always wants to be with me, snuggle and scratch her head, under chin, she lifts her wings up....its quite charming. The bad thing is when I leave the room, she squawks and the family is getting quite annoyed.
Any tips on rewarding quiet behavior?

You can try calling back to her, if she's just contact calling this might ease her mind that you're still around. You can also try teaching her to call you using a phrase or a whistle instead of a sqwak. In addition, if she has some type of loose routine so she knows when to expect your attention, that might help. If you just got her, the calling should start to subside.

Valentine is 6 yrs old. She still calls me when I leave the room. I always tell her where Im going or I'll be right back. If I am in another part of the house, and she calls, I tell her that I will be right back. So talk to Kona, she may be a little nervous when you leave. Remember, birds are flock birds, you are her flock.

I'm new to the forum - this is actually only my second post - but I am momma to Thomas, a ten year old gold-capped conure. I am a very uneducated parront and he is a delightful brat. I had the same problem that you mentioned with him squawking when I left the room; Tiel Feathers and greys4u have already mentioned what ended up being my best solution.

First I started talking to him as I was leaving the room, then when I was a few feet down the hall, then from the kitchen next . . . a little further each time, and stretched out over time. That, along with going to his cage first after being gone and fussing over him a few minutes, calmed him down a great deal. Best of luck with Kona. These babies are worth it!

Congrats! Jenday conures are beautiful. It's nice to know that Kona wants you to be around. We've started rewarding my little Zwei with a treat when he does quiet calls, instead of loud ones when he's with us. It's only been 3 days, but it's already made a significant difference. The other advice offered is exactly what I would recommend.
