I'm driving down to pick up my first bird on Friday, and I feel really nervous about it! I've been waiting for this for more than 7 years, doing as much research as possible in that time... but I still feel unprepared!

Has anyone else felt this way before adopting a new bird? Should I be reassuring myself or seriously questioning if I'm ready?

I was a wreck, because Nautilus came at the same time as other really stressful things in my life :roflmao:
Was crazy relieved when he was finally home.

I'm currently looking for a new bird after one of my Green Cheeks passed. I've been to rescues, am scouring Craigslist, etc. I'm nervous even though I've been doing this for many years! The unknown is scary, especially when there's a little life at the end of it who will need you for basically ever!

Well, nearly 8 months have passed since I picked up Merlin and I can say with confidence I had no reason to be worried.

All the research I’d done paid off in spades! The first few weeks were definitely a little surreal, like “oh, that training tactic actually works.” Or, “That’s what they mean by THE morning poo!”

I recognized his hypoglycemia and abnormal body weight, knew what a terrible clip he had and his high risk of falling, was able to identify kidney issues, gas, and dehydration and treat them all effectively, and have built an incredible, trusting bond that has already seen me through some dark days. All because of AA and the resources I found here. I took my time. Merlin and I are all the better for it.

Thank you, community! I couldn’t have done it without you.

ALSO, the only reason I ended up with MY Merlin was because I was patient.

I actually drove down to California for a HUGE Congo named Sinbad who wanted absolutely nothing to do with me. Beautiful bird, but I knew when I met him we weren’t right for each other. I truly hope he found his forever home.

…I hope his people protect their toes.
