Vacation help needed…We are Keeping our conure inside our camper… if there is a light breeze we bring him outdoors 1 hour after foggers sighted. The mosquitoes are crazy here in Chincoteague and the island sprays outdoor areas daily… via plane and truck floggers. Does anyone have any advice or tips for keeping a conure protected? Do cage mite protectors help at all? Any safe repellent choice for small birds? Plants that would repel and be safe? Dobbie is such a joy! My husband says— he is a bird and he eats bugs…and not to worry….

Moms always worry, don't they?

Personally I would never use any cage mite protectors, they are made with Paradichlorobenzene unless they have changed the formula or maybe if your in a different country.

This from Mount Sinai on paradichlorobenzene. Paradichlorobenzene poisoning Information | Mount Sinai - New York

This is from the EPA. https://www.epa.gov/sites/default/files/2016-09/documents/1-4-dichlorobenzene.pdf

bottom of page 2 lists the ingredients. https://www3.epa.gov/pesticides/chem_search/ppls/087703-00001-20130911.pdf

Apple cider vinegar is a pretty effective insect repellent dilute it in a bottle of water. Some insect repellent plants are lavender, rosemary, basil, any mint, catnip, lemongrass and citronella. Mosquitoes hate garlic you could get some fresh garlic and crush it in a some small containers and sit it around where Dobbie will be that will keep the mosquitoes away. They also make garlic barrier and it works great.

Personally I would be more worried about the risks of your conure inhaling the spray poison from the air that the airplanes drop than the mosquitoes themselves.
