Yes, no girls for me thankfully no egg worries. I don't think I will ever own a female bird just read too much stuff about egg layers who can become chronic egg layers.

We didn't have DNA testing on them , we assumed she was a girl because of her slanted eyes
But she sure would have made a good Mommie, she nested on that egg until it cracked and then we replaced it with a wooden one!

Amazing of you to offer this Amazon a new lease on life, so to speak. Seems he has made great strides since you aquired him. Keep up the amazing work. I wish you would have expanded on the steps it took to re-tame....I'm assuming that not being handled all those years would make him "wild" and untrusting of humans. Again wonderful work.
I aquired a re-home senegal and, although not caged up/neglected to the same extent your amazon was, had some behavioural issues and basically lacked boundries etc. Very rewarding to see the behavioural, emotional, confidence changes as training progressed.
I applaude you on this.

All the best,

Wayne

Thank u! What I did in the beginning was pull up a chair and just talk to him. Much of what I do still!
I discovered he loves being talked to
I would clap and praise him with all of his accomplishments!
I think my love for him showed through and what kept me going was the thought of how sad it was for him all those years in a cage, never held and one tiny perch!!
The other morning I had my hand on top of his cage and wasn't rely paying attention and then all of a sudden I look and c his head down next to my thumb, I could have melted!
He is a good boy and is extremely playful with me, he even rolls over onto his back !
He makes the cutesy sounds! He's trying so hard to talk
He lets me kiss him on his head and beak!
And wow! Doeshe love to eat.
Thx for your post!!
Cheryl

Glad to read he stepped up for you. I would think if he was rolling around on his back all this time, he probably just didn't know how to step up all the way. When he does it in the future, make sure you praise him big time but don't demand more from him. So for example if he steps up, don't take him away from his cage for the next hour and force him to have more interaction with you than he'd want. Instead, hang out close to his comfort zone, praise him for stepping up and let him step off the instant he shows any interest in leaving your hand. After he's been stepping up for a few weeks, then you can start pushing for more. Congrats on the progress.

No , she goes in the cage immediately for my husband

Is she perch trained? If not you might want to work on that.

Congrats! It's wonderful to hear of a bird that's been in the same family for 20+ years :)
If she's perch trained, why not just use the perch when you have to be the one to place her in the cage?

I'd say the reason she doesn't for you is she knows it makes you nervous. Your husband must have a different energy when he does it. She has your number!

A perch would work great if she'll use it.
