My local pet store has a mini macaw that has been there for almost two years. The poor thing has been in a small cage with no toys, no interaction etc and in the last few weeks has started to pluck :(

The woman who runs the pet rescue I volunteer for talked the pet store owner into "giving" the bird to the rescue and I am going to foster him.

Today after work, I am going to pick up "Booger". We will see what he thinks about having fresh fruits and veggies instead of absolutely NOTHING but pellets.

Poor booger!

He is a funny boy. I talk to him when I'm in there and he talks alot. (Who named him Booger, I don't know lol).

We will see how beat up I get trying to get him out of his cage and into his travel cage. He hasn't been handled much or let out of his cage at all.

Poor guy, I am sure he will love being at your house. Maybe you will fall in love with him and he'll stay:)

Awwww, well I'm glad he's coming home with you! Do you know what kind of mini-macaw he is?

I'm sure he'll jump right into a new diet. :)

Maybe Booger can transition into....Boomer or Scooner or something....it is a pretty unfortunate name IMO.

I don't know what kind he is, but I will post pictures and hopefully you all can help me.
His cage came with him and it is way too small. I have to work on getting him a bigger one. He had NO perches in his cage. Not a single one. He just hangs off the sides. He has one thing hanging that probably used to be a swing but is now just bare wire. I got that right out. Not a single toy either.

I gave him a perch and toys and he is busy exploring. He had some banana and loved it. He also ate some broccoli.

He has been chattering away and of course his favorite and clearest word is none other than...Booger! We do need a new name.

Oh and before he bites he says Ow! Ow! Owwww! Lol

That is funny!

So he is home now?? No perches? No toys? Nothing was in the cage at all?
Ugh that is something that gets me very upset. Please do get pics for us, I know nothing of Macaws but others will know what you have right away I bet.

FONT="Times New Roman"]Yep he is home. Nothing in his cage except for that bare wire form that used to be a swing.
I will post pics tomorrow since I left my camera at work and my home computer is down.

NO PERCHES?? Poor, poor Booger. Such an improvement with you already. (Jealous of his banana & broccoli eating. Tiki is still a big NO on both, haha.)

"Ow, ow, ow," is both clever & cute even it does come before a bite. At least you can look out! :)

Its breaking my heart to see him hanging on the side of his cage. He doesn't know HOW to perch. When his feet get tired he lets go and hangs on with his beak only.

I haven't tried to handle him yet. I'm sitting where he can see me and he is talking and making noises so I think he is comfy enough at least - not too scared.

All you can do at this point is give him time, lots and lots of time.

Good food, fresh water, perches all different kinds if you have some. Birds may be afraid of colored perches, others may be afraid of cotton/wood ones. I have a bird like that only natural wood perches or he freaks out.

Awwww, poor little Booger. I am so glad he is now in your hands. Your loving care and time and patience will win. I can't believe he didn't have any perches! That is so outrageous. Totally ticks me off. Can't wait to see pics of your little guy. Wishing you both the best.
