I wanted to start this thread for the plucking birds. I do have a soft spot for pluckers!!! I recently rescued a Goffins Cockatoo that was plucked, she is beautiful to me though. You are welcome to view my slideshow dedicated to the pluckers.

Look at those beautiful birds!! Gorgeous!

I have a rehomed senegal who plucks down to bare skin, and also a nanday that plucks, but just down to the down on his chest, not to bare skin like Jade does. Duster does this once or twice a year and then lets the feathers grow back. Right now he looks beautiful fully feathered, but I know they will come out again. I love him all the same.

Jade came to us two years ago as a plucker...after about 8 months she had all her feathers in....that was about March or April of 2008, and then last February or so of 2009 she frantically pulled them all out again...so that is how she is now....I never give up, yet love her as she is.

You really have to look close at Goofy to tell that she is plucking but I will love even if she plucks herself bald. Right now everything I do seems to make her pluck more so I figure it is only a matter of time.

Aww, do you know what is causing her to feather chew? She is still very young fo rthis, yes? Only almost 2 if I remember correctly? Do you think its allergy related? Environmental?

Not all had a bad start. I had Duster since a little baby...he was always loved and cared for just like my others....with him it seems to be all hormonal....and he is happy!

Jade came from a home that loved her....it was her second home and I am her third. Her second home was good to her but did not really know how to care for birds...no toy, messy cage, etc....but she is a sweetheart for sure.
