So is the sweet Bonnie sitting on the egg or did she just drop it off to be a show off? Lol!
She was in the dish when I went to clean it out. She didn't object and let me take it away. I guess that makes me an egg thief in her eyes.

Second egg this afternoon :( I would have boiled the eggs and put them back but they were already broken. I've ordered a silo for their seed/pellet mix. She won't be laying in that.
For now I've put a couple of obstacles in the dish and placed it on the cage floor where they don't poop.

She was definitely brooding a single egg. She wouldn't leave the dish until I actually started lifting it. Could that be down to inexperience?

Oh sorry Kassiani had asked if she was sitting, that’s who I was replying to. Not questioning you. ;)

Yes that could be inexperience for sure, but I have one canary hen who sits tight from the very beginning.

I imagine the problem with this would be if you were going to let them hatch— imagine if there were 5, you’d have a 5 day old with a new hatchling! Quite a size difference.

2 bits of news.
After 5 eggs she's stopped laying.
Aaaaand - one of the daughters was procrastinating so I got the solicitor -via a vet report - to mention the eggs. These two are mine now. :excited1:

Welcome to the flock little ones!!
You don't realise just how canny you are.
I've had them out with the budgies and whilst the budgies behaved like normal - playing and eating as normal - they were quieter. The finches stayed together but showed no fear or stress. It was just like I was introducing new budgies to the flock.
Right now they're all in the big cage together with the doors open for quick access and escape for any of them. Clyde had a boundaries warning from Angel (the same as she has done with any new bird).
Right now they're sharing perches, pigging out on Zupreem Naturals and the budgie volume is increasing.
I've jumped the gun and removed the terrible cage the finches had gaining a little more space for myself.
It really couldn't be going any better. No stress from any of the flock, plenty of eating and preening.
I think I already may have a flock of eight NINE!

3 weeks now and no dramas. I let them all fly together and Bonnie and Clyde decided to join the budgies in large cage.
Boundaries have been set. Roosting is in seperate areas of course but the one big surprise is that Pepper and Silva will readily share a seed dish with them - I'm really grateful for the (too) large seed dishes. When they're out they fly and explore together.
It's not what I was expecting but it's everything I was hoping for. The only thing I'll have to be ready for is the budgies' next hormonal season.
