Hi All!

This is my first post, so bear with me if my ettiquete is a little off :) I have a beautiful little Harz Roller canary, Pablo. She (i'm assuming) has been with me for about two years now and has recently started to exhibit some strange behaviour. There are no other birds around as my lovebird recently passed from egg binding, so I've started to bring Pablo outside with my in the shade to enjoy some fresh air. Recently she's started displaying her vent when she hears a particular bird call, and I've attached a video to show the behaviour. I'm assuming this is a mating ritual but couldn't find anything about it when I googled it. Has anyone else experienced this before? Is this normal behaviour?

She really quietly squeaks as she does this.

Thank you so much!

I am keen to read any replies you get as since we have been taking our little one outside with us during warmer weather she has started nesting. We only have the one bird and assume she is a she and she has been displaying the same behavior as yours and she is stealing anything soft and placing it into the nest pan she has used as a bed since we have had her.

Yes I think so. Perhaps the warm sun, fresh air gets them going!

I wouldn’t worry about it, wanting to mate (or in your case Yve) nesting these are normal behaviors.
