Anybody have any advice on desensitizing your parrot to a new baby? My conure is displaying some territorial behaviors. My plan of action is to have the bird see the baby from her cage or travel cage and hopefully over time she will become accustomed to my baby’s presence.

I think the best thing to do is to make sure you carve out some time every day with your bird. Their whole world has changed too! When my babies were sleeping, I would make sure to do one on one time for even just 10 mins with my birds. Time they don't have to compete for your attention. Trying to keep their schedule as similar as possible will help.

And yes, giving them as much safe exposure to the baby will definitely help! If they CAN be out of the cage while baby is around, that will be best, just because we don't want them to think "baby means I have to be caged all the time! Grr!"

However, if they are being a real stinker then it's okay for them to have a more cage time right now. It's temporary :)

Thanks @Mizzely !
Yes huge adjustment for everyone! I’ve been adding much more enrichment to her cage and relying on babies nap time for our one on one time. We had an incident where Gumbo tried to dive bomb the baby when she was in our bedroom, which is where her cage is so she’s very territorial of that space. I want to include Gumbo in family time, but I agree we need to wait until we all feel safe. I hope one day we’ll get there We’ll keep working on it!
