Thank you everyone. How do you get over the anger towards the other bird?? I know he is just being a bird was doing what came natural, protecting himself or his loved one, but every time I look at him, I know he killed Chaz. I look at him and see the picture of my sweet Chaz's head in his beak. The pictures are gruesome and when I look at Mateo, I see them. How do I get over that?? He took my Chaz from me and Kaylee.

I'm sorry you feel like that but don't even go there Delta. Mateo or Chaz did not ask to be put in this situation and had absolutely no control over it. Having different species and sizes is a risk. A risk "we" accept and allow. My deepest condolences to you. Concentrate on the good memories and block those images out.

It is very hard to explain. I am not really blaming Mateo but I think it is human nature to be mad and upset with Mateo. I know in time it will pass, I agree, neither him or Chaz asked to be here in this situation. I agree, those are chances we all take when mixing flock sizes. I took all precautions as much as possible to not have this happen, but they always seemed to find a way. I am upset and angry and so full of hurt. I am angry because Mateo killed Chaz but also angry because Chaz thought he was a bigger bird.

Mourning goes through phases and today I have felt so many rushes of emotions washing over me.
