Imping Maui ... Cross your fingers ...

Fall after fall, Jump after jump.... we have come to the decision to have Maui imped. His left wing is bare, not one feather other than the last two secondaries. Every new feather that comes in he breaks as no other feathers are there to support it. Wisconsin has a new vet, Dr. Scott Ford and Maui is heading up on the 10th to see if he is a candidate. We need to cross our fingers as Maui's broken feathers are not very long. Dr. Ford also will not do the procedure unless it is seen as necessary but considering all the broken blood feathers, three times with stitches in his keel and since three days ago, he cracked the tip of his beak I don't think I need to prove this is a hazard to him. I'll get some pictures together to see where we are starting from, I just pray he can be done. I know about 5-6 are too short but I'm hoping the rest have enough length to do.

I also have no clue what the price is I hope I don't fall over. Anyone have a clue so I can know how much rear end kissing to do with hubby?

Definitely sounds like it's time to try something to stop the cycle. I hope imping does the trick for Maui!

The re-attach bird feathers from a donor using splints...basically that's it.

It is only his left wing. Everytime we think some are going to stay, he breaks them. It's been an awful road for him.
