HOW TO ATTACH A VIDEO?

Odd thing is I did it before but now dont recall how.
Can one just attach and upload a "native" file to a post?
If so what kind? I have an MP4 but its not being accepted.

Or - do I need to post it to YouTube or Vimeo and then just provide a link?
