My gcc's dropping seems to be abnormal. It hangs from the cage. He's almost 6 months old.. what could be the possibile reason for this kind of poop. I am attaching a pic of her morning poop which was hanging from the cage..

Morning poops tend to be large and messy as they like to hold out all night. What do their poops look like through the day?

What is their diet?

Those droppings look like some that my cherry-headed conure has first thing in the morning or occasionally throughout the day. It seems normal to me.

Same here, I thought you may have snuck in and gotten one of Bailey’s! Looks normal to me as well…

Good candidate for poop soup...my conures are fond of that...at least I think they are, as they make it SO frequently :embarassed:

These are his poop through out the day. Doesn't the urates look fishy? I am worried because his poop seemed to hang from cage bar as seen in the first picture.. am i being too paranoid or is he alright? Recently he has been through antibiotics ciprofloxin for secoundary bacterial infection.. i am really worried about my baby after that. Do you guys think it's bad that his poop hangs in the cage like that?

No it's not unusual for poop to hang on things. Your bird's poop looks lovely and healthy.

Thank you so much.. i was really worried because recently he went through a very high dose of antibiotics because of secoundary bacterial infection.. This is my rescue baby. I rescued him from a dude who who kept this poor bird in a closed room with no airflow, which lead to a heat stroke. This poor bird was unable to walk and was not able to move his left wing because of the stroke. I took him in and tried my best to help him recover. He went through a lot of medication and love and care then he was able to stand on his feet and walk and fly like before. Still his immunity is weak, he becomes sick often so i have to take special care of him...

Vmax he's behaving okish but seems to be a little weak because of the recent dose of ciprofloxin. Will have to give him probiotics for few days

A few do look a bit stringy. Medications can alter poops, and if he has a bacterial infection that will certainly affect the poops, too

I will keep an eye out for next few days.. but my question is ciprofloxin was supposed to cure his bacterial infection.. why does his poop still looks a bit stringy ?

That seems more like a question for a vet. It's possible that the infection hasn't been completely treated.

I asked the vet. He gave 2 more antibiotics . But his body is already weak from previous antibiotic.. will it be wise to give him more antibiotic now ??

So, my CH Conure has a variety of poops throughout the day. The morning poops are a pile of green feces with urine and urates mixed in. If we have been training, and he has a big drink of water, his droppings will be nearly pure urine (all liquid).

And he has a habit of pooping while clinging to the side of his cage. I've seen those poops work their stringy way down the horizontal cage bars like a slinky toy descending a set of stairs. So no, I still don't think your birds droppings are abnormal. That said, I'm not a vet. Can you send these pictures and your concerns to your vet to see what he/she thinks?

I've sent the picture to my local vet. He's not an avian specialist tho. There's no avian vet in our country. By seeing the poop he told me to give 2 more antibiotics. But the bird has recently gone through ciprofloxin. And I don't want him to go through more. Currently I'm giving probiotic and will continue for a week.. i seriously dont want him to go through more antibiotics.. because he is only 6 months old..

Can your vet do a culture of the bacteria?

No.. they can't, the local vet only looks at birds activity and poop and prescribes medicine..

Those morning poops can be huge. Cheddar's morning poop not only thumps when it hit but echos as well.

I rate it by how many tissues it takes to clean up, this morning was a 4. He won't poop in his cage so holds it all night long.

Now BB poops in his cage and has smaller poops as he poops all night long as needed not holding it like Cheddar does.

Conures, they all seem to have their own way of doing things don't they?
