Hello, I'm Nat! I'm getting into the pet bird forum thing haha.
I've been taking care of a brotogeris parakeet for a while, specifically an orange-chinned, also known as a Tovi parakeet. I named him Milo. Unfortunately, I don't know exactly how old he is. I'm guessing he's young.
I found him laying in my garden and wasn't able to fly properly (he still flies low to the ground, short distances, but he doesn't do it that much), he was also a bit smaller in size, and had many pinfeathers in the back of his head. Luckily my dog didn't notice he had been in the grass for a while, so I arrived just in time before she attacked him.
I guess someone else owned him, they're common here just like the amazons, but his ex-owner proabably "set him free" (he's very loud, I can see why). None of my neighbors reached out to me. He almost instantly stepped in my hand and climbed to my shoulder. He's used to cages, being close to humans, and tolerates dogs. Someone told me they think he used to be clipped.
I know it's dangerous for a "tamed" bird to be set free because of the death risk.
Anyway, I've managed to build a decent relationship with him, which was pretty quick and easy. He's very curious, loves head scratches, walking around following people and crawling all over them. He spends a fair amount of time outside of his cage.
Anyone else owns a broto parakeet? I'd love to read whatever you guys have to say. I'm kinda new to this, but I've tried my best to read a lot about them.
Pretty excited to be joining this forum as well!
