Discounts that Pique our interest?

To me a GIFT is patience...honestly, every vendor I've delt with on AA had oodles amount of patience. Shipping to Europe is hard on them as it's on me. They can't contol how much postal service will charge to ship something. I know I have to pay about 1/3rd - to 1/2 of my order on shipping. It's not a vendors fault, but I do want to order.

Giving that vendors have to pay money for particular item, pay electricity bills, internet bills, gas bills, buy boxes to pack our packages in, pay pay-pal fees, pay taxes and after all that not go bankrupt, when they take the time to organize SWS or ANY sale at all is a GIFT and should not be taken likely. They all or most of them have day jobs and they, for the love of birds, have dug deep in their bank accounts to start their bussiness, not because it will make them incredibly rich (although I do hope they earn enough) but because they want to help.

I agree with you, I have had many thousands of airline miles expire before they could be used.

Now those I use cant get enough for all the traveling I like to do

Funny, I have that programmed into my cart, a rewards system, but *some* of my customers are pretty spoiled. I think the vendors should get rewards

If you were Canadian, you would have have kittens every time you had to pay shipping. They add a fuel surcharge onto every parcel now and it adds up fast. It is cheaper for me to send something to someone in Florida, then say Ottawa or Quebec

Yub nub. It is sad that I pay less shipping for my California clients than I do just to ship within Ontario for the same sized (if not smaller) box! I charge flat fee shipping, and when my Canada Post lady tells me the cost, if it's within $1 of what I charged, generally my mouth just hangs open that it's not coming out of my pocket.

With my order to distributors for my materials, $30 shipping isn't unreasonable for the $ amount I'm spending. Husband looks at me like I'm mental, but compared to a general order *I* send out, it's not that bad. I think I've been desensitized to shipping charges over the past year. As a vendor, shipping was one of the first costs I didn't expect to be so high.

Maybe my sale will include some sort of free shipping People seem to get excited about this

I told you already - Merlin doesn't like to fly! Sure he's fully trained, snuggly, cuddly, and is more entertaining than television, but NO!

I personally dont care for the idea of no discount now but you will get a discount in the future with points. That is making me spend more money to then get a discount. I prefer % off sales and reduced/free shipping.

I like the loyalty point factor because at some point I will end up buying for my parrots whether it be now or later. I'm doomed to purchase toys for them for as long as I shall live with them.

I especially would enjoy this rewards system if it comes from a store which offers my parrot's favourite stuff. It gives it that cherry on top.

Lets say a store that buys and resells.

They buy something for $5 then sell it for $10, but no no no, they can't sell it for that, they need to compete.
So they sell it for $9.50
There is a sale now, 15% off, so now it is $8.08, lets add free shipping, which is say 10-15% of the cost. Now that item is $6.87
Okay, they made $1.87, now what about time? What about website fees? What about packing supplies? Oh yes, what about paypal fees, they are 2.5%-3%? Lets add a free gift in there.

Just sayin

When a vendor has a sale, REALLY appreciate it, they are doing it because they LOVE birds, they appreciate their customers AND they need money to pay their bills

I'm feeling bad that I've purchased during a sale time. I've seen the shipping that Doris (Avian Organics) has to pay while she's offers low rates during sales! It's been an eye opener having this process pointed out. It doesn't give me a good feeling knowing my sale purchase is the reason that a vendor makes so little. Maybe the SWS isn't such a good thing.

I thought of something really cool when it comes to discounts. How about for every (x) amount that we accumulate in purchases we receive points. These points add up. After X amount of points accumulated.. you receive an equivalent to a small (discount) for future purchases.

KInd of like air miles or Loyalty points. I know of a vendor that does this and on one of my last big orders I got a nice fat discount. I had a choice to apply the discount on which ever order I chose.

I really liked that.

That sounds like a good idea for people who purchase items frequently. I do big purchases several times a year and wouldn't like this.

Personally Free Shipping on over "X" amount purchases is nice, and maybe 10-15% off. I can guaruntee if the prices look right I'll be doing majority of my spending at a vendor who provides this.

I do want to thank the Admins and Vendors for taking time to organize such an awesome sale time! It truly is appreciated and I am very grateful.

I just wanted to clarify that on my post I meant I like free shipping sales, OR 15+% off sales. I don't expect a vendor to do both.

Please note once again that we are all grown ups. Mature adults that make our own decisions. This primarily includes the vendors. They make their own business decisions and no one is forcing or putting anyone to do ANYTHING. Offering sales is a business decision to do so or NOT. It is part of doing business and the decision is completely the vendor's RESPONSIBILITY.

It is as much a privilege for the vendor when a client chooses to spend their hard earned money and shop at the vendor's store as it is when a vendor chooses to offer a discount to their client. My personal opinion is that this is a win win situation.

Some vendors don't need to place sells because everything they offer (product, service, client experience, quality etc) is a CUT above the rest.

I hope all vendors can strive to be so remarkable.


This notion of making clients feel guilty because they took advantage of a sale that the vendor offered is ludicrous, silly and absurd.

Yes sales are great. They aren't an obligation and if I like the overall product, service and demeanor of that the vendor and what they offer I will continue to purchase, provide repeat business and refer. Sales or no sales.
In the end it is all about my parrots. I love them and my purchases are all about them.
Thank goodness for free market and competition.

Honestly, bird products are so expensive in Australia I would be happy with 5% off at the SWS! I've got my fingers crossed that certain vendors will be participating!
