This is my first Cockatiel so this is one of those 'trivial beginner questions', yet has to be asked non the less
My Cockatiel is going through his first molt and he has three crown feathers that has been in their sheaths for a couple of weeks now. He often scratches at his head but the feathers are just out of reach. Since he's still very much hand shy ... other than being handed toys ... he won't allow me to give him head scratches. How long do the sheaths remain on the feathers and do they eventually disintegrate/fall off on their own, without assistance. Can they get "stuck" and/or does it ever become a concern when sheaths remain on the feather for an extended period of time?
