Hello. I’m not a cockatoo mom (yet) but will most likely be inheriting one. I know Sugar the citron crested cockatoo only from caring for her in her owner’s absence and she was extremely sweet and interactive with me. I have never had a parrot of my own but have cared for many them in my work as a pet sitter. I’m here to learn all I can, get input and advice and information on how best to care for her (who might actually be a him I’m told) While I have cared for other parrots I can not touch or get too close to, sugar was hand raised by her owner (who has since passed) and is very responsive, inquisitive, shakes my hand, waves hello at me, seeks out my attention and talks a bit to me. I adore her(him) and am both excited and anxious to bring sugar into my home. I think her screeching is the only thing I’m nervous about, though my neighbor has a very loud severe macaw next door that we are all used to. What should I expect? What is your best advice and input for a first time “too” mom? Thank you so much for listening and for any advice you may have to offer.
