My Eko was injured by falling right at the pelvic bone last month. Since then, he keeps reopening it. I had him at the vet Weds. Dr. B has me putting soother cream on it multiple times a day. I do, but it is still "wet" and bleeding. Tonight, I rinsed it out with saline and put cayenne on it. I feel strongly like I needed to do that to stop the bleeding.

Did I make a mistake? I feel like it is the right thing to do.

I guess I am looking for opinions. My stomach hurts from worrying about my boy.

Yes, that was a good decision. Cayenne not only will stop bleeding it works as an antiseptic and stops pain. I'll post some info for you.

I didn't really make a paste. I just rinsed his pelvis with warm saline and then packed on the organic cayenne. Dr. B. said he stayed up all night trying to figure out what we could do to protect that area. It it right by his vent and where his 2 pelvic bones stick out.

I am so sorry to hear this about Eko.... sending him love and scritches and hugs and love to you, I know how much you love your boy.

I don't see how cayenne could hurt anything, hopefully...... and probably it will help

I love him so much it hurts. He is attacking me lately because he does not feel good. I am scared that he will get an infection because he keeps reopening it.

I don't think he is picking at it. He hits it when he falls. I am afraid an ecollar would make him even more clumsy.

You may have to use a collar and then place him in a small cage where he can't injure himself. Just for a time until the wound heals up.

Do I need to rinse it off daily?
From my experience I would think not but I will ask Gary. It puts a barrier/film on the wound. When I've used it for Ruby and then gave her her shower (two days later after threat of reopening had passed) it would not rinse off freely. It was still protecting the wound.

Sorry Eko is hurt.

You did good with the cayenne. Pack the cayenne on heavy to help clot the blood and close the wound, leave it in place as there is no need to clean it off until after healing begins. If the wound will not stay closed your vet may use a surgical patch to close the area. However, I feel the cayenne will work if it does not continually get bumped or picked at. There are many grades of cayenne, the best comes bulk from many health food stores.

Please keep us updated.

Gary

So it sounds like the cayenne works almost like an antiseptic scab?

I only just saw this, poor Eko! :(
I hope it heals quickly now with the help of the cayenne! :hug8:

I have been keeping an eye on it and the wound seems to be healing better. I have not tried to rinse off the cayenne as I do not want to disturb the scab. Prior to this it was open and wet for days and days.

I rubbed a bit of soother cream over the area last night.

Cross your fingers.
