Bird-Safe Cleaners for Bathroom

Hey everybody!

So my roommate and I both own birds.

We also have a bathroom that gets messy fairly quickly (lots of people use it), AND I have OCD and like my spaces to be as germ-free as possible. Or I get pretty unhappy. Lovely combination, right?

I want to give our bathroom a good cleaning, and I was planning on opening the bathroom window and just using clorox wipes. We don’t have a central AC system (old house) so I feel like that should be sufficient. But it is right across the hall from both of our bird rooms, so my roommate is worried it’ll still be dangerous for our birds.

Is my roommate right? If so, what are some alternatives? I don’t really care about it smelling fresh or anything, just that it does its job and kills the germs. How can I get our bathroom clean without hurting our birds?

here's what I use most often: Baking soda in parmesan shaker jar (recycle reuse repurpose ) mixed with citric acid powder 75-25 ratio baking soda to citric acid . mix it well. little bit goes a long way. Sprinkle some in the sink or the tub and dampen it with water. scrub it around and rinse. i use white vinegar in spray bottle for tile. moisten tile first with vinegar then apply baking soda on damp cloth or sponge , scrub around rinse with water towel dry no spots.
using these is less harmful to environment, and less wipes to the landfill.

I primarily use Force of Nature. But baking soda, citric acid, and vinegar also get used, especially in my toilet.

Clorox wipes don't usually have a lot of odor to them so they are probably fine for use in another room away from your birds.

Hi, roommate here. The bathroom is only a few feet from rooms with a window that is rarely opened. I am not comfortable with clorox wipes being used on a regular basis.

Then don't use them :) Your comfort is also a key part of this!

you can make your own wipes with whatever you want in them.

I have done this, especially during the covid pandemic, to have way of cleaning. don't use cheap paper towels either cuz they shred quickly. I was lucky enough to have 6 roll package of VIVA paper towels b4 the world went nuts. pull from the center of the roll not the outer edge.
