I’ve been making bird baskets since I had my first Quaker. They evolved from carriers to just being a perch that could be easily carried and hold bird, toys, and a bit of food. Hang toys from handle, wrap the handle with tough twine, and put newspaper in the bottom. Voila! Bird basket.
Willow (Quaker parakeet)’s current bird basket is about 8” by 12”. Hrs had it for a couple of years and is being a bit nest-protective of it.

i can’t use this basket for the Meyers parrot because she’d eat it in minutes, but the Quakers have never chewed on them.

my last Quaker had a bad leg and foot and the wrapped handle really helped her be able to balance. I don’t know if Willow cares about the handle. With his shyness around new things, I’ve needed to point out and play with the hanging toys and the balls. Until then he wouldn’t touch them and still doesn’t play with the spoon set.

You can put a wire hanging loop with safe wire off of the side or handle to make it easier to hang toys from a fixed spot. Paper in the bottom catches potties and this is a good station at which to train them to potty.

my three Quakers have ALL loved these baskets and understood that they are their special place. I had my Lucy on a basket with cloth flowers at my wedding many years ago. Willow sometimes defends his basket; but I don’t usually need to mess with it when he’s present so it’s not a problem.

Just set him back on the basket and he immediately did two potties! Which I “captured” by saying “potty” as his little butt crouched and then “good potty!” when it hit.
All three Quakers I’ve had were potty trained; the only problem I had was when Lucy did not want to stop playing so she would hold it until she basically exploded.
