Quite a few months ago, I paired up two of my Cockatiels (for the first time), Rosalie and Emmit, whom decided they would start mating. So, I put them in a separate cage, gave them a nestbox and they were mating often STILL. For a bit, Rosalie was going in and out of the nestbox, but suddenly the problem came where whenever Emmit would sit near, on, or in the nestbox he would guard it, if Rosalie came anywhere near it, he would attack her, making her fall to the bottom of the cage a few times. Rosalie got sick of it, and they both lost interest, so I took them out, and removed the nestbox. I then put Emmit and Rosalie back in the normal cage, and lo and behold, Emmit started mating with Theo - I left them in there together for awhile, then later put them in another cage with a nestbox.. bad idea, YES! Emmit again, started becoming aggressive when he knew there was a nestbox, and of course, started attacking Theo, whom didn′t yet have any interest in the nestbox yet, and didn′t even get the chance. He also gave me quite a few bites while the nestbox was attached to the cage too, both times, when he was paired with Rosalie, and when he was paired with Theo.
I′m really disappointed because I was hoping to pair Emmit up with one of the girls at least! (either Theo or Rosalie) I don′t think it′s possible now since he can′t be near a nestbox without being agressive.
