Welcome! I do not mean to sound discouraging, but given that you are talking about almost 30 years ago, and the exodus of breeders in the United States for a myriad of reasons, even if you do find the name of the breeder, it is unlikely that you will get any further than just having that information. What specifically were you trying to find out?

I found a budgie with a baI found a budgie with a band, B 50195. But, I couldn't find the breeder. Any information appreciated. Thanks

I hatched my first bird in 1993. Still have a record of every bird I reared/banded. Have retired from breeding but am hanging on to my records.

Mrs. Speed, you are a remarkable breeder with an impeccable record and a past AFA president. I actually attended your AFA lecture on golden conures years ago, and frankly am not surprised. It was clear to everyone in attendance that you are truly passionate about your birds!

Welcome! If you live in the US, your bird was likely bred in Washington state, but I do not recognize the breeder's identification abbreviation.

Not necessarily. The 8 is most likely the bird's individual identification number.

I'm assuming NYC is New York City ...(I'm in VA), 18 would be the year hatched maybe? but i'm a bit lost on the RASTA part. i didn't see that in the list

This list is not exhaustive; there is no complete centralized database of bird bands unfortunately. I'm not familiar with that breeder, hopefully someone will be!

some sleuthing brought up Empire parrots in NYC and Parrots of the World in Long Island, the latter states they breed or did breed Illigers. It might be worth a call

Even if they DIDN'T breed that illie, they MIGHT know someone who did!

Possibly even an avian vet in the area, or a bird club in NYC might have info?

I suspect 18 could actually be the bird's ID if there are no other numbers on the band.

There’s a spot in Miami called J.M. Exotic Birds, no dedicated website, only f/b and Insta. But you could give them a call to see if that’s how they label their bands.

Thanks I had already reached out to parrots of the world, but I sent a message to Empire Parrots, I'll see what they say!

Update in my Illiger's Macaw and trying to find out about his band - I think I contacted every breeder/pet store I could locate in NY area and nobody knew anything about his band so NYC RASTA 18 but still can't get anything to come up. So strange! I suppose it's not totally important but I'm curious about where he might have come from and how old he might be. He passed through at least a couple people before me but came very adjusted and sweet and knew tricks and a lot of speech, someone put some time into him.
