Many of you know my story of losing my Heart Bird and shared in the sorrow with me after also sharing in the years of happiness beforehand.
Being able to come here and express that sorrow was an incredible part of maintaining my mental health during those times- to know other people understand the heartbreak and mourning that most would brush off as “it’s just a bird!”.

I lost him 6 years ago,
And this coming Sunday I am picking up his little brother from the airport (genuinly a brother!)

a freshly weaned Red Tailed Black Cockatoo.

over the weekend just gone my husband and I went to pick up a large order aviary- I will upload photos once we are finished putting it together.

I have an indoor/sleep cage for him too.
I plan for him to be outside in nice weather during the day while I work, and to bring him inside every night for socialising and to sleep along with it there’s bad weather.
For the first few weeks I plan to have him mostly inside since hes

fresh pellets are on the way in the mail.

my children all have and care very well for their own birds now.
my eldest in particular has secretly been begging family to help him buy me a black cockatoo again in secret- warms and breaks your heart at the same time!

I am so glad you are going to get another redtailed black cockatoo. We were all devastated when you lost your other one.

So awesome, it's that time of year here that we have flocks of them visiting the garden... they are very beautiful.... can you shoot the two of them. 20220919_110851.jpg

thank you so much everyone!
i have missed AA and obviously having a bird to love and adore
You are all so special and wonderful, I love this community so much.

Random typos are from being on my phone- I’m also noticing sentences just disappearing halfway through for some reason

Congratulations! I'm so glad you'll have a birdie to love again.
Thank you so much! I’ve long thought about it but couldn’t yet follow through

Congratulations! I have only seen one in person, but red-tailed black cockatoos are absolutely stunning!
They are so beautiful! Even owning them, when I’d see them at a zoo or something I’d still be mesmerised! The different subspecies also sound and look different enough to keep it

thank you so much! Honestly it is still one of the worst days of my life and I actually saw a psychologist over it. It crushed me
I admit I’m sentimental to a fault and so getting to have his brother really helps my heart heal a little further.

Can't wait to see your photos, I'm so happy for you.
Any name ideas yet?
Thank you!
I don’t have any name ideas yet, I admit I’ve been almost avoiding thinking of them as I’ve irrationally been thinking “if I chose a name or get too openly excited, something will go wrong! “
even though I’ve paid for him and his flight, and booked the flight, I still worry somehow I’m just dreaming!

Tonight we got halfway through putting the aviary walls up after work
Tomorrow that should be finished and then we will put a different roof on, and decide if we should use pavers or concrete it
So I might have a progress photo tomorrow!

I’ve been doing some food shopping :D
