I had my dogs nails done at Petsmart. They couldn't finish because he was "grumpy"
Look what they did to his nails :( , do you think they will have to sedate him at the vets to fix it?
He won't let anyone touch it :(

He goes to the vets tomorrow to have it looked at. I am so scared the sedation will hurt him because he is 13.5 yrs old.

Do you think I should let it grow out, or tape it instead?

Ugh that so looks like trouble, he will catch that that on a rug or something and that will really hurt and be a blood fest.:(

Poor Dirk, I would think you could just walk into your vet and they could trim that for you. Maybe muzzel Dirk just for that quick cut??

I would get him in and get it taken care of too. The poor guy will just keep re-injuring it if he gets it caught on things.

It's hard to see in the pictures, I can't tell what's going on. They may have to sedate him or maybe just restrain him and trim them correctly. Or maybe lightly sedate him.

Who knows maybe they can bond some material on it so they don't have to trim it??

Looks like it will snag on things.

They may just remove the whole dew claw, a lot of times they remove them when they are puppies. You should discuss his age and the sedation with the vet. They may just put some anti biotic ointment on it and put so gause around it.

I hope it goes well keep us updated

Awe poor baby....not sure what they will do, but most likely not full sedation at his age....topical and a muzzle maybe? I would make sure to go back to pet smart with that bill....

Here, I used a macros, its better pic.
Ok, I can see it now. Does he have very crusty nails? Is he an older dog? I have a dog with nails like this. It looks like they may have used not very sharp clippers and it bent the nail and yes, it's probably sore. It will just have to be cut past the damage and it will hurt some but they will put something on it if it bleeds. He will be ok. If you were closer I would come over and do it for you:hug8:

I know it isn't serious or anything, but shoot, hiring people to do this you would expect a better result.
Thanks everyone for your concern :)

It was damaged once before so it isn't a normally perfect nail.

Can you tape it with the paw included until it is seen so that it does not catch in anything? Maybe the Vet will remove it ? We have had dogs who had the dewclaws removed because they were long growing and stuck out enough to be in danger of snagging in things. Good luck.:hug8:

Well, it might not be serious, but it's painful and it it wasn't done correctly and that isn't ok:(

They make caps you can put on cat nails that glue on, I bet they have them for dogs too.
