I've always love blue pieds - my father used to breed nothing else. Then this week @meheartbirds (thank you) posted about her new foster boy and that piqued my interest. But not much chance of fostering/adopting one round here because people will pay good money (ahem, donation) for a good bird so the thought went straight to the back of my mind.
Friday morning I had to visit the RSPCA to return two hens to their owners. Was sad to see them go but I really went there to find a pal for Tau my tiel. No tiels at all in the book, went right through it and nada, nothing for her.
BUT, on the very last page was this male blue pied. The photo wasn't too clear, but because it was being held by a vet quite a distance for me the only way to see it was to take it because of the driving distance. Aaaaand, he comes with a buddy budgie.
Mmmmmm, do I, don't I? What the heck. On the spot I said yes. Met the vet yesterday morning and brought them home.
Let me introduce to you, Minty:

And Chalkie:

Chalke runs a mile from me at the moment so I'm not chasing him for a photo. Also his coloration seems to upset the auto focus. Minty has a violet leg ring which makes him a 2015 bird.
I'll get some better pics up when I can.

ETA:
Minty is a blue DF Dominant Pied Clearflight.
Chalke is a sky blue SF Dominant Pied Clearwing SF Yellowface Type I.

Congrats - they are both beautiful! Can you explain the violet leg ring - letting you know he is a 2015 bird. My found budgie does have a leg ring also - maybe there is a way for me to find out how old he is?

And how is Tau?

Every year breeders use a diffrent color band for that year 6BC76272-5B56-45FE-8455-1D8C05A4520B.png

@Budgiebonkers , thank you. Well, he has a blue band. I'll try and read it later. He does not like to be handled much.

Thanks everyone. I really did drop lucky with these birds. Minty especially, his coloration is one of the best I've seen in a while. Also the flock has settled down already, they've just slotted themselves nicely.
I hope I get the option to adopt, both of them.

Such are the pitfalls of fostering neglected birds. I hate these bits.
Last night I noticed Chalke was twitching his wings, a lot. I separated him this morning for a quick check over. No broken feathers and no obvious physical injuries. He was still twitching in the 'hospital' cage in a darker and warmer area, maybe a little worse.
Had a quick convo with my vet and he's asked me to bring him in. So I'm off for a train journey to my vet to see what's going on. TBH he doesn't look too good.
Minty is on his own now, quiet and disinterested.

Chalkie is stopping with the vet for the night. When I got there he was on the bottom of the carrier, twitching bad. All the vet could do was take bloods, give an anticonvulsant and Broad spectrum antibiotic and pop him in an oxygen tank. Pathology is going to be rushed through but he assured me it's not infestation or contagious.
When I got home Minty was bouncing round his cage calling and looking for his pal. So I've put his cage right next to the others for the night. Seems quiet right now so I'll leave him be.
Guaranteed I'll be on the phone first thing. Thanks for your thoughts everyone.
