Great that you managed to get him to the vet so fast.

Chalkie has a very large growth on his trachea. A biopsy has been taken, will get results tomorrow morning.
The position it's in will make it extremely difficult to remove or even reduce. It is so large the pressure on Chalkie's crop made it extremely difficult to eat. He'll eat feverishly, but not enough. When I checked him his crop felt full but I was mainly feeling the lump.
I've told the vet to operate in the morning, to do what he can, but not to let Chalkie suffer any.
I never had time to insure him, so financial constraints have to steer the next 24 hours as much as my heart. I'll see what the morning brings.

They are both gorgeous little fellows. Sending prayers and hugs for Chalkie to get through this surgery okay! So sad that he has the growth, I feel so badly for him, and you.

Another chapter closes. Chalkie was too weak for surgery, and passed away 13:10 GMT.
I'm glad I didn't have time to get too attached, but Minty has lost his best friend. That's 3 I've lost now since joining the Avenue, but I am dealing with birds that haven't had the best start in life.
I'm not going to take any more on until the flock dynamics have settled. Minty has joined the flock in the main cage and has come out of his shell. He still has moments where he sits quietly, but he is joining in with the play so I see no problem with him adjusting now.

I am so sorry for the loss of Chalkie. I was not expecting a good and happy update...but you gave him a chance. It has to be very difficult taking in these birds that have had such a rough start in life. Happy for those that survive and do well.

I'm sorry. It is brave of you to take these neglected guys on. No matter how short a time, you do get a bit attached.
It is so sad when they are just on the doorstep of a wonderful life with you.
I'm glad you have a flock that will accept Minty and that he wants to join them.

Thanks @Fergus Mom, jogged my mind there. Minty is doing great. He's beak tapping and practicing his seduction methods with Jack, the other male budgie. Neither of them is showing any interest in the female, so she's spending more time with me now.
Nice relaxed flock I'm growing. Half a mind now to look for another female, redress the balance a bit. Thanks for asking
