I got the girls a new little house to sleep in. I wasn't sure they'd use it, but it was too cute to pass up. And they loved it immediately, and now sleep in it nestled side by side.

I also took a few pictures today while sharing some millet with them.

Once the day's millet is gone, they spend fifteen or twenty minutes carefully searching the floor for the little bits they dropped.

OMG my heart is just melting.

How long did it take for you to tame them and how did you go about it?

I got both very young. Buttons came first. I kept her in a small cage the first week or so and a few times a day, I'd put my hand in the cage and leave it there until she calmed down and would sit near it on the only perch in the cage. Then I'd hold a millet spray and she'd nibble it and I'd put my hand closer and closer to the end until she was touching my finger every time she ate. By day three she was comfortable jumping right on my hand to eat the millet and within a week she would step up on request without a dood bribe. They were very easy to tame and I didn't do anything special. Bobbin was the second one and she copied Buttons and so she was stepping up almost immediately. She is now the more outgoing one but they are both equally trusting. I started clicker training a bit later and they both very quickly picked it up and learned to fly to me when called though I haven't done that in a few weeks now and need to get back to it before they forget it.

Both birds have no fear of people anymore and will land on you and play around you, you don't need to bribe them with millet they just like your company. Javas have a more parrot-like personality than other finches do and are insatiably curious. You don't really get to see that if they are not tamed.

Well being very young they bonded with you and the second one just took her example seeing how you didn't eat her friend:xflove: Sure reminds me of a much more colorful Beeper.

I am so jealous! Java finches (along with a few other finch species) are something I'd love to have in the future.
