Hi all!

I was looking for a dedicated parrot forum and am glad i found you guys!
Today i got a pair of masked lovebirds! Am very excited i got them!
I just need some help. Can you please identify the mutation of them? One is more blue and the other one is more like turquoise.
Are they masked or fisher's ?

Thank you very much! IMG_20170514_184218.jpg

Oh........what a gorgeous little pair! I don't know mutations, but I think they are masked and some sort of blue, obviously. Such a beautiful blue. You will have so much fun with these little critters, keep showing us pictures. Congrats on your new babies.

Thank you all for your nice words!

I do also believe that they are blue masked, but the colors are a bit different to each other. One is more like turquiose. Are there different blue varieties? Also when they breed what will be the little babies color?
Will all of the babies going to be blue?
I am very happy i got them!

A quick update! They now seem to be a lot more comfortable to their new home! I added them a nest box plus some palm fonts, hope that they can be usable to them :) Any advise?

Beautiful birds! The blue mutation lovies really fascinate me. Kumo, my Fischer, is a violet coloring. :)

Some examples of different black-masked blue mutations: IMG_0514.JPG

I'm no mutation expert so I can't offer much help, but your two are beautiful!

One is probably cobalt blue, aka single factor dark blue.

If there is any chance that these two are related (i.e. siblings), then please remove the nest box.

Are they old enough to breed?

Are they on a healthy diet that includes vegetables and some fruits?

Do you have hand feeding experience?

Supplies necessary to breed and raise chicks?

When you are able add some hanging toys to help keep them occupied. Also some varied perches........maybe a rope perch. Some shredding toys in addition to the palm fronds, which they LOVE. They are a beautiful pair, I love that blue.

Goodmorning!

They are not siblings, they come from different parents.

They are one year old birds, born in spirng 2016.

I try to give them as many different foods as possible. Seeds, peaches , banana, cucumber egg etc daily.

Never had hand raising experience in the past. Is that necessary?

Thank you all for your replies!

1st. If they are going to breed the hen needs calcium rich foods to prevent problems with egg laying.
2nd. What are you going to do if they have fertile eggs that hatch and the parents won't feed them or don't feed them adequately. It is not uncommon for first time parents and can happen with any parents. That is why it is important to know how to hand feed. Also sometimes parents will pluck or otherwise injure they babies.

Try and add some leafy greens and other vegetables if you are not already doing that. Also, Lovebirds often will make a few attempts at egg laying in order to get the hang of taking good care of the eggs and then good care of the young. So there could be several failed attempts at rearing in the beginning unless you are able to step in and hand raise them yourself.

I have added them cucumber , strawberries peaches banana and hard boiled egg.

They dont seem very excited about the fruits. Shall i add more vegetables like lettuce etc?

Fruits are full of sugar and can be given but shouldn't be overdone...........yes, better to try leafy greens, even lettuce.

Skip the fruit, it's too sugary. Things like broccoli, bok choi, carrot, green beans peppers, etc. Start them on pellets as well if you haven't already. And get those babies some toys!
