Thanks for sharing, Laurie! Do BHCs also only raise the eldest two babies or is that unique to WBCs? Very interesting, and that's a darn cute little one that I hope to see many more pictures of!

How much weight does she gain when the eggs are still in her?
I guess I missed this. I actually do not know. I don't weigh them everyday or even every week.

Ask me about babies. I weigh them every feeding. LOL!

From what I hear they are about the same. I am actually trying to help mine learn to be better parents but I don't want to let them neglect the babies to help them learn. I guess it is a fine line.

I believe Peaches and Turbo would be excellent candidates for co parenting chicks but so far they haven't proven to me that they will feed the babies sufficiently. If they do feed the youngest ones well then I may let them keep the last two until right before their eyes open.

Three of the eggs have hatched with the next one due on Friday.

Since my pair is not super reliable at feeding babies I try to make it easier for them by only allowing them two chicks in the nest at a time to feed so when the third one hatched I took the oldest out to hand feed.

The oldest baby weighs 32 grams now and is 8 days old. Check out the videos below to see how much it has grown in a week.

Still soooooo tiny. How often do you have to feed and how do you brood them? Thank you for sharing.
I feed them 4-5 times a day with one of the feedings being overnight. I have a professional style brooder that controls the temperature and humidity.

They are so adorable - I have never seen a baby sleep on his back before!

It just depends on the pair. But caiques in general are not known to be excellent parents.
