I circled the mitered corner in yellow. It's done this way so the open end of the square tubing that's used isn't exposed.
I wish I knew how you did this. It is just what I would have like to have done:o:

I must say, it does seem like it would be a much nicer design than the Freedom shelf .. which in my opinion, doesn't look all that "polished".
Yes, it will be much nicer! I sure wish I had heard of them sooner!

:p Please let me know if you have any BETTER ideas.
My So just emailed me to remind me that a railing should be built on top so that when *brave* Sachi decides to fly on top of Emma's cage, she can land on this so Emma doesn't rip out her toes.

It's good for others but I really do not want to put a sheet of plexi glass on top of the cage.:hehe:

Here's a photo of what we have now and it works very well for Sachi.

I like that. Did that serve a different purpose on that cage or was it just decorative?

Just decorative. What I also like.. is that it prevents Emma toys from toppling over when she's playing on top as well. She also likes to perch on it.:dance4:

Here are a few videos to illustrate what I mean.

I wish that my flight cages had railings like that,it would be a big help to keep Nala's toys in. Love the vid of Emma on her back by the way.

You were just going to put a playgym ontop of her cage, weren't you? I think the flat top with or without railing would be alright :)

That's a Hagen Manor cage, right?
That railing wasn't meant as being decorative...it's to glide in the tray which you don't use (light stopper, right?) and support to the playtop which you don't use either :hehe:

Well, a 32" dometop with 3/4" bar spacing costs quite a bit more than a 36" flat top with 1 1/4" spacing at northwest....

yes :)

first: the dome requires a LOT of shaping and work plus more material than the flat top.
Second, 3/4" bars need way more material than 1 1/4" spacing bars (many more bars)

It makes sense. :)

Then that makes sense. Today when I spoke to Tricia from Expandable Habitats she explained that there is always more room in a flat top.. unless the panels on all sides are equal. It seems that Dometops were created mostly for the *eye candy* of humans.
Is the price for the cage that you would want at Northwest a WHOLE lot more?

wow, i'm learning so much from watching you guys go thru this process... even got hubby a little interested, which means when the time comes for us to buy a new cage (not for a few years now) he'll be totally primed to go custom and SS!!!!
