He has a split in his tail from the trip. I am treating his tank with a tea made from Indian Almond Leaf.

The cord lying there will be removed as soon as I get a new thermometer. This one works, but is off by six degrees.

Good questions, I'm curious too, though I would imagine that they grow out because of all of the movement of the water around them, I can't imagine how it could fuse back together

It will grow out, but it takes time. The IAL helps to heal the torn edges, and lowers PH, and a few other things. They have been used for centuries by people in Thailand. Don't forget people do fight these fish[], so injuries are commonplace.

Yep, they just heal on the edges, and grow outward.

There should be many to choose from if all goes well. I am not breeding them right away though. To spite what others do, 4 months seems awfully young to breed anything. Except maybe octopus. Then there is the tail issue. I think they should be in prime condition first, so let's give them at least 3-4 months.

This is just a curiosity question - when you start to breed them, will you keep them in the same tank together all the time or do you keep them separate and just allow visitations? They are stunningly beautiful fish!

Cathy, I still have reading to do. I think the male builds a bubble nest, then you put the female in. Then remove her and the male takes care of the babies. Then the babies can grow out together for a few weeks until they start showing what sex they are. Then the males have to be separated or they will all fight. Silly fish.

They are gorgeous carole...at the time of breeding it can be very tricky.The male can become hghly aggressive and hurt the female.Once the breeding is done the female is removed.If you do breed them in the future I'd love a white little female.Where did you order the IAL?I should order some for my king betta the PH climbs high in his tank.
