I had suspected that Major did not hear that well when we got him 4 years ago. The last year or so it has gotten to the point now that he can only hear loud percussion noises. I tested it a number of times. Coming up and standing behind him and calling him. Even if he does not look his ears do not move.
Laying in the hallway sleeping. I come up to him with a spoon and a cup. Clink the spoon on the cup from a foot away. He does not wake up. His ears do not move. Age related hearing loss. Not much we can do.
If you did not "know" him you would never be able to tell he can't hear. He compensates by watching everything like a hawk. He takes commands through the eyes and gestures.
I love my dog.
