I would suggest an asper titer but that means taking blood.

What on earth is going on over there?

Cultures take at least 7 days to show results so that won't be helpful if he is feeling touch and go Saroj. You are too good of a customer for them to not help you so make sure your techs keep finding the right people. If culture results are needed get it done as waiting won't help you.

Your techs should be able to do a blood draw for culture if need be. If they can't get a vein on him they could always disinfect and clip a nail.

Hi Sarah, sorry we all conked out. I was up all night working. The birds are napping. My vet didn’t do a blood culture. The avian vet in Jacksonville was counting on it to make an antibiotic recommendation. We can easily get nail blood. Shall I have my tech come by tonight?

Whatever culture they are recommending should be done right away. They already cultured one right? Didn't they get a sensitivity then? We are fighting ecoli right?

Takes a few days to get the results from the choanal swab.
Asper titer is something separate from the swab.
If they get nail blood you should have them do a full panel and maybe they can also do the titer.
How is he doing now?

And they did sensitivity. Amoxicillin is third on the list. The tech from the clinic said they never ever do nail blood and at the moment a jugular blood draw is out of the question

Will they add an antifungal as a hail Mary? I normally wouldn't advise that since it's a pretty toxic class of meds, but if Sulfatrim is first on the list and it's not working, then most likely something else is going on too. You're between a rock and a hard place because he can't wait for the culture and can't tolerate further tests. If he were my bird, I'd want him on a combo of antibiotics that covered the broadest spectrum possible, plus an antifungal. I hope it's not the case, but you may just be out of time.

Btw, vets legally can't prescribe to a patient they've never seen, so I'd put my time and energy into either getting him hospitalized somewhere or working with your established clinic via the techs and whoever's doing coverage.

Yeah, asper is my thought too unfortunately. Though I'm admittedly biased since I just lost a bird to it.

Unfortunately no. It just means it's probably not yeast in his GI. But there are plenty of other bugs it could be (or even a false negative on yeast). I don't really think his symptoms point toward yeast, though.
