As we were about to leave for a weekend trip, I saw that Pressie was using her foot funny. Upon inspection, I found out that her toe was hurt. I am assuming that Honey bit her. :(

My mom and I cleaned her toe, and they told me to bring her with us. When we got to our location, she started bleeding again so I cleaned it again and stopped the bleeding. Now she won't stop picking at it, and I am currently holding her.

There are not any avian vets open where we are, nor will any be this weekend. My mom will take me to a vet when it is open, all though she thinks there is no need as they will only stop the bleeding, which we can do. But she will take me if I insist. But again, there are no avian vets open.

Tomorrow, she will be by herself in the RV all day as we will be at the races. They will not let me stay here alone, I have no choice but to go.

I need to fashion a cone to put on her, any links or advice on how to do that? Also, what should I continue to do for her.

I have such bad anxiety right now. I'm so upset.

(Please be gentle with me, I am a mess)

Maddy, cones are easy. If you have a good bird you can even use cardboard to make an E collar.

Are you sure she needs one? Maybe by the morning she will be done picking at it.

NO MADDY DON'T USE THAT is burns

Maddy, do you have any white flour or cornstarch where you are ? if so I want you to take a big 3 finger pinch of it into your palm of your other hand, add 3 to 4 drops of warmish water to it and mix it into the flour. make semi thick paste of the flour and water. hold the bird and apply it to the ouchie. pinch it on firmly and hold it, in place for 15 to 30 seconds, that should stop the bleeding. a well wrapped toilet paper tube will work for collar. you will need to slice the tube length wise and size it to Pressie's neck. wrapping it with paper toweling does work. and piece of bandage tape to hold it in place.

No, I am not sure that she needs one for sure. But I am such an anxious person that I know I will worry that she will mess with it and bleed to death...

Can you try to bandage the toe instead of using a collar? It may not stay on, is really hard to get it wrapped on a small toe and she may pull it off in no time but it may slow her down picking at the toe.

Thank you Laurie, I will not use it! @rockys'mom

I am not sure if we have flour, but I will check. I used cayenne pepper for bleeding the first time.

I don't think I would be able to wrap her toe..... it is SO small.

I ended up trying the TP roll cone. Pressie is not happy! I think it may be too heavy on her neck, or maybe she is getting used to it. She isn't a wobbly with it as she was 15 minutes ago. I will try to post a pic.

She seems okay with it now, she was able to eat and drink but not reach her foot.

She is such a good girl. She let us put it on her so nicely!

Guess we should all carry a birdie emergency box with us when traveling. Even a fully supplied box may not have the makings of a collar. Nice job!
